Why is this recipe great to make with kids?

This peach mug cake is a fantastic choice for kids because it’s both simple and rewarding. Your children can be hands-on measuring, mixing, and watching their cake cook in the microwave. This recipe is a great way for them to learn basic cooking skills, like how to measure and follow a recipe. Who doesn’t love enjoying a warm cake they made themselves?

What’s the history behind mug cakes?

Mug cakes’ roots trace back to the invention of the microwave in 1946, which made it easy to cook things in a matter of minutes. In the decades following, people began experimenting with what they could microwave and that’s when the idea of a single-serving cake made in a mug emerged. The mug cake really rose in popularity in the 2000’s, where tutorial videos showcasing easy-to-make recipes brought the trend to kitchens everywhere. The idea of making a dessert in a mug was not only practical but also allowed you to experiment with flavors and ingredients! It’s perfect for those late-night cravings or unexpected guests.

What if my kids don’t like peaches?

No worries—there are plenty of alternatives you can try in your microwave mug cake! Instead of peaches, feel free to get creative by substituting in any other fruit. We recommend you try DOLE® Mango Slices, or DOLE® Pineapple Slices for a tropical twist. Or, try using DOLE® Frozen Blueberries for a berry option. If using frozen fruit, it’s a good idea to microwave them for about 30 seconds before adding them to the mug to ensure they’re thawed. These alternatives are just as delicious, and once you try one, I’m sure your kiddos will be begging to experiment with even more microwave mug cake flavors!

What’s the best way to enjoy our peach mug cake?

The best way to enjoy this cake is right out of the microwave when it’s warm and gooey! Just make sure to check the temperature before your little one dives in—microwave desserts can be super hot! You can keep it simple and enjoy as is – or add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top. This is not only super yummy but also makes it visually appealing.

Now that you’re ready, grab those kiddos and let’s dive into the recipe for your very own Peach Cobbler Mug Cake!
