Pineapple Residue to Be Used for Power Generation in Philippines
Dole Philippines Inc will start biogas power generation using pineapple residue as fuel.
POLOMOLOK, SOUTH COTABATO | November 19, 2018 – The Dolefil Division of Dole Philippines, Inc. (“Dolefil”) is pleased to announce its partnership with Metpower Venture Partners Holdings, Inc., a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), for the construction of two Biogas Plants, one in Surallah and one in Polomolok, South Cotabato.
The construction of the two Biogas Plants is planned to commence in the first quarter of 2019 for Surallah and the third quarter of 2019 for Polomolok. Operations are anticipated to begin in 2020.
These facilities will produce “green energy” to support Dolefil’s operations through the digestion of pineapple and other fruit waste from its canneries. These waste-to-energy conversion plants will function as renewable energy sources as well as sustainable waste treatment facilities for Dolefil.
Dolefil strives to operate in an environment-friendly manner by prioritizing its pillars of sustainability: carbon footprint and energy use; water stewardship; soil conservation; and waste management. Dolefil VP and Managing Director, Randolph I. Fleming, said, “We have been operating a Biomass plant in our Polomolok facility since 2012, and decreased our electricity consumption by 5% over each of the last five years.
